If dieting was easy no one would be fat and the diet industry would not introduce a new gimmick or product for quick, easy weight loss every five seconds. The secret to losing weight is perseverance. Without this you will keep gaining and re-losing the same 20, 50, 100 or more pounds over and over.

July 1st marks the start of the last 6 months of 2009. Since I like schedules and dates so much I thought this would be a good marker for anyone who has been struggling like I was in the month of June.
Lets start July focused on getting healthier for the last 6 months of the year rather than dwelling on any screw ups, cheats, etc we did for the first half of the year.
Let's face it the first half of the year has pretty much been less than stellar with bad news on the television, swine flu fears, etc. Maybe all of this negativity has caused you to just say the heck with it and start an all out binge fest.
It doesn't matter because that was then and this is now (a great movie from the 80's by the way). So if you have been looking for a reason to get back on your program here it is. For the next 6 months lets all work towards changing our lives. One pound of fat at a time.
Saturday marked the end of Week Two of the Summer Weight Loss Bootcamp Challenge. This week I lost another pound. Thats one more pound of fat gone.
Sometimes when the weight loss doesn't go as fast as you want it to, you may be tempted to give up or give in to tempation. This is why I posted that I lost another pound of fat, rather than I only lost 1 pound.
Every pound of fat you lose will bring you closer to your goal. Sometimes it may not be as quickly as we want it, but over time those 1 pound losses will add up to some pretty big numbers.
Just keep on going no matter what the scale says. My clothes are baggier this week than last week. I can see more of my cheekbones and I have less back fat. I can actually feel my hip bones when I am standing up. These are great changes to focus on, instead of letting a number on the scale influence how you feel today.
Have a great Memorial Day tomorrow and make it low carb!
May 10, 2009
Today is the first day of the LowCarbDiva Summer Weight Loss Bootcamp Challenge. If you are struggling in your weight loss, just starting out or need a recharge. This bootcamp is for you.
The first bootcamp will run from May 10, 2009 - June 6, 2009. Below are the Summer Weight Loss Bootcamp Rules:
1. Weigh yourself today - get your starting weight and write it down.
I know a lot of people advise that you should not get on the scale and just go by your measurements and how your clothes feel, but at LowCarbDiva we are going to do things a little bit different. We are going to weigh once a week and only once a week. If the number on the scale doesn't change we are not going to get depressed and scarf down a box of Little Debbie Snack cakes. Instead we are going to keep plugging away.
2. Take your measurements and write them down. Always take the measurement on the largest most hanging area of fat on your body (this is for inner thighs and arms). Waist measurements should be easy. For men you measure at the point around your belly button.
3. Make sure you are eating enough protein. The formula I use is your current weight (in pounds) divided by 2.2. You can usally go +/- 10% from this number.
4. Decide on what plan you are going to do and follow it. Don't switch plans in the middle of boot camp because you are not seeing results as quickly as you want.
5. This is for anyone who is having trouble losing weight - you must create a calorie deficit no matter what plan you are on. So if you are stalled you should enter your calories into fitday or another food diary type program to find out if eating too much is the cause of your stall.
6. No cheats allowed. I don't care if it is your birthday next week. That piece of cake is not going to make you feel better the next day. Besides this is only for 30 days after that it will be your choice if you want to continue.
7. Exercise - I recommend 3 days of week of resistance training and 3 days of cardio for 30 minutes (work up to it if you have to).
8. Prepare as many whole, non processed fresh meals as possible. Cooking from scratch can be a pain, but at least you will know what you are eating. A crockpot can be a great tool! Also pre-cooking food for the week can hekp you stick to your new way of eating.
9. Get rid of all diet sodas and crystal light. Drink only water!
10. Never forget that the only time you will fail is when you stop trying.

Hey everyone my Summer Weight Loss Boot Camp starts on Sunday May 10th. Anyone can join, but you have to be comitted for 30 days. There will be no whining about how Sunday is Mother's day and couldn't we start Monday. There will be no excuses about why you can't exercise or how you have all this junkfood in the house that you don't want to waste by throwing it out. Look for more details tomorrow May 11th.
