August 4, 2011 Day 25
Dieting forces brain to eat itself, scientists claim
Well it seems the geniuses are at it again. Claiming that if you go on a diet that your brain will start eating itself. Quite scary considering some in our population need all of the brain cells they have and just cannot afford to lose anymore.
I wonder if they did a study on dieting that did not advocate for the low fat whole grain mantra how many brain cells would be lost. My guess probably not as many or even any at all considering our brains are made up of 2/3rds fat. After all if a baby's brain needs fat to develop my guess is that even as adults we need that fat and cholesterol to save our brains from cannibalizing itself in a quest for nutrients.
So one can conclude that to keep yourself from turning into one of those brain eating zombies you need to either stop dieting OR start eating saturated fat!
Too bad they don't have a saturated fat council that could run public service announcements on TV.
Their slogan could be: Fat It's Where It's At or Fat It's What's For Dinner.
May 17, 2011 - Day 12
Even though my pants are not falling off of me yet. I decided to try on a pair of size 18 jeans that have been in my closet for over ten years.
At one point (about two years ago) I was able to squeeze into them, but now they will only go up to mid thigh. That inner thigh fat prevents me from getting them up! I am estimating at this point that I have about 15-20 pounds of fat minimum that needs to go from that area. If anyone has a secret fat removal tool I can borrow, please let me know! ![]()
I have decided to start weighing myself once a month starting at the end of this third 30 day challenge.
April 26, 2011 Day 2 Weight Loss Challenge
I hope that everyone enjoyed their Easter Weekend. If you succumbed to chocolate, jelly beans and other sinful Easter desserts and treats hopefully you are now back to your low carb eating. If you are still eating junk, stop it! That's right I am talking to you. Put down that one pound solid chocolate bunny and get inspired with how good you could look this time next year. Not to mention how much better you will feel.
I can't believe that I only have two more days after today and I will have completed my second 30 Day Weight Loss Challenge. My clothes are looser but that dang fat pack of mine is still holding up my size 26 jeans.
It is really unbelievable to me how I can fit into a size 22 now but the size 26's will just not fall off of me. I don't mean to whine, but I am going to whine.
I expect to see major changes in my size and clothes over the next 30 Day Challenge, which starts on April 29th.
Anyone is welcome to join me as I try and break new fat loss territory in my quest to get under a size 20 and lose more weight.
June 3, 2009
My mother turns 65 this year and for as long as I can remember she has always been on one diet or another. She has tried every fad diet out there and all have ended in failure. But she is 65 and still has not been able to conquer her weight demons. Up until last year I was following in her same path.
What is different now than a year ago for me is I started acknowledging the price that I have paid for being morbidly obese. I also now know that my future at 65 would be very bleak and dismal if I continued to eat myself slowly to death. Yes, weight loss requires discipline because when those good feelings of having lost your first 5-10 pounds wears off you realize that you have a long road to travel without the benefit of the constant praise from friends and family.
In fact most of the time you will be greeted with people trying to sabotage your efforts as you lose weight. Like telling you that you don't need to lose anymore weight (even though you still have 50-75 pounds to go).
Decide today that you are worth it. Look at your old junk food friends as the enemy that they are. Their comfort is only short lived and will only make you fatter.
For today refuse to spend another year wanting to do something but paralyzed by fear and doubt. Reading blogs and weight loss success stories can go a long way to motivate and keep you inspired when you want to give up.
May 28, 2009
Since I will have lost over 200 pounds once I am done with my weight loss, the thought of having a bunch of loose skin has crossed my mind a time or two.
There seems to be a consensus on the internet that if you have a large amount of weight to lose than it is inevitable that there will be loose skin. How much it seems depends on the person and their genetics.
There are horror stories online about people who have lost 100 pounds or more and had folds of skin hanging from their arms, thighs and stomachs.
I wonder if losing actual fat and retaining your lean muscle mass can prevent loose skin. I am doing resistance training and as I lose weight my arms have gotten smaller (less hanging fat) but with 90 pounds or so to go there is still plenty of fat on my body.
I guess only time will tell. I may take pictures of my hanging fat so I have something to compare it to when I reach my goal. If you have lost a large amount of weight let me know your results with loose skin.
