Contrary to what many people believe vegetable oils such as canola (crapola) oil are not the same as olive oil. Every time I go out to eat and ask for olive oil for my salad they always bring some sort of vegetable oil.
So now I just carry my own when I go out to eat and avoid the 3 minute discourse with my server about why vegetable oil is not the same as olive oil.
Those that refuse to give up this supposed heart healthy oil should know that food manufacturers pay the American Heart Association for the privilege of proclaiming their food a "Heart Healthy" item. I don't know about you but I am always a bit wary about taking someone's word for something especially when they are paying money to do it.
Secondly vegetable oils such as canola oil are tasteless and contain lots of unhealthy omega 6's which people already consume to much of in their standard diet.
Lastly that vegetable oil you are consuming may be rancid as these oils oxidate the longer they sit on the shelf. This produces free radicals that are harmful to your body. So much for heart health.
So next time you are at the store get some good quality olive oil (and not the extra light as this is just as tasteless as the vegetable oils).
Your body and your taste buds will thank you.
