Is Weight Loss Just A Perk Of The Low Carb Diet?

I don't know about you but I started eating low carb to lose weight. I was tired of eating plain brown rice and skinless and flavorless chicken breast for lunch and dinner. Eating low fat I was always thinking about food. Fantasizing about nachos with gobs of sour cream and cheese, ice cream sundaes, etc. I was never satisfied and subsequently I would inevitably succumb to temptation and eat the very things I was craving.

With low carb I eliminated the physiological cravings for eating high sugar junk foods and I am working on eliminating the psychological desire for junk food when I am stressed, etc. I will talk about how I am doing this later in the week.

Today I want to address a comment I hear a lot from people who are struggling with their weight loss or a plateau.

That comment I have heard sounds something like this: "weight loss is secondary to getting healthy." Now I don't know about you but I didn't start low carb to stay 307 pounds and just have my health improve. I started low carb to lose weight and I believe that a side effect to weight loss is that my health will improve not the other way around. If I stayed at my current weight and had great health marker numbers I would not be happy.

I want to be a normal weight. I am not working and struggling everyday to change my eating habits permanently to stay fat and uncomfortable. I will not give up and just say, "well at least my health numbers have improved." I will not keep tweaking my low carb eating with fat fasts, meat or egg fasts, frankenfood versions of high carb treats, etc. I am willing to sacrifice a moment of pleasure certain foods can bring so that I can enjoy the rest of my life.
