Atkins Didn't Intend for People to Keep Carbs So Low
Yesterday I read an interesting comment on another low carb blog that got me thinking. The comment was "Atkins didn't intend for people to keep carbs low forever." While I am sure some would disagree with this statement. I wonder how many low carbers out there are so afraid of carbs in any shape and form that they keep their intake at 20 or under.
I have noticed that these same people who measure even the amount of lettuce they consume will occasionally binge and pig out on junk food and non low carb treats. I have a confession to make. I never weigh my lettuce. As a matter of fact my husband and I consume an entire head of romaine between the two of us for dinner and I do not even bat an eye.
Follow up:
I eat salads 4 times a week minimum and I also include red onion, black olives, cucumbers and sometimes tomato. I never worry about the carb count of lettuce because it is negligible as far as I am concerned.
Today for lunch I will be having a hamburger patty, eggplant with tomato sauce and cheese broiled in the oven. Some days I even make sweet potato fries (of course I split one medium sweet potato with hubby).
If you keep your carbs under 20 please follow Atkins advice to add them back in increments of five. otherwise you may see a gain on the scale from glycogen stores being replenished. Perhaps just having slightly higher carbs days a few times a week, rather than everyday is a good idea. We all have different needs and medical issues so what works for me may not be what works for you. But to limit your carbs dramatically just to get your weight off a few months faster can be a dangerous road to regain once you reach your goal!
By the Way Today is Day 25 of My Weight Loss Challenge!
