The Biggest Losers Eat Less, Lose More Than Bargained For

So now we know the real reason these contestants are able to drop huge numbers each week. It's not the exercise it is their calories, or lack there of. When is the dieting public going to realize that starving yourself and eating little to no fat is not only unhealthy it is unsatisfying.

Kristen, Ron and Sione were so excited to show Bob how their eating habits changed, if only they had changed for the better. From the calorie tallies I made I don't think they ate more than 1000 calories each and less than 8 ounces of protein. It makes you wonder how much of their weight loss is due to their bodies cannibalizing lean muscle mass instead of losing actual fat.

Follow up:

I was pleased that Bob was upset about their low calories and lack of fat and protein, but this lack of understanding by the contestants just shows you that the producers of this show are more concerned with the biggest losers putting up large weight loss numbers rather than teaching them how to eat for the rest of their lives.

No wonder a lot of the contestants regain their weight once they are off the show. I have heard that the contestants are not allowed to take diet pills but they are only given guidelines regarding how much food they should eat, etc. What they actually put in their mouths (or don't put in their mouths) is up to each contestant.

That's why low carb is so great. You can eat fat, moderate protein and vegetables and never have to feel hungry. Your body is not battling the highs and lows that can occur when you eat fruit and grains. It's to bad that this show cannot promote this healthy and satisfying way of eating.

Oh, one other thing about The Biggest Loser was the segment where Bob promoted soy as a healthy and great alternative to real meat. He said the dangers of soy are not true. To that I say "Hogwash" soy is not only a genetically modified crop it is produces excess estrogen in your body. Plus if you have thyroid problems soy will only compound them. It's a shame that soy is in everything prepackaged that you buy at the grocery store. To bypass all the soy use as many whole and fresh foods as possible. Your body will thank you for it!
Here is a link to an article about the dangers of soy:

Wow, that's really sad. I don't know why the health industry and government doesn't get a clue. Protein is the key to weight loss and muscle gain. It's been proven time and time again.

I agree having enough protein in your diet is very important. This is a great rule of thumb to make sure you are getting enough protein:

Divide your body weight by 2.2 and use that as your target amount plus or minus about 10%
