When I was in my teens and twenties it never occurred to me that being overweight or obese would ever impact my health. I felt pretty good physically in spite of the extra 30 - 100 pounds of fat that I was carrying. I would often repeat the mantra that I wanted to get thin for my health, but the truth was I wanted to be thin so I could look hot!

Follow up:

It wasn't until last year that I realized exactly what those health implications were. The human body is amazing it can tolerate decades of abuse before it finally says that's it I have had enough. Sometimes if we are lucky we are able to reign ourselves in before permanent damage is done. Unfortunately for many they are never able to break the cycle of losing and regaining and pay the ultimate price with Diabetes, Kidney Failure, Heart Attack, Stroke, just to name a few.

I did not want to spend my golden years in a wheel chair because I lost my legs to Diabetes, going to dialysis three times a week, or worse.

If only people would go more in depth about what will happen to you if you continue using food as a form of emotional salve, as a form of entertainment, as anything but what it is supposed to be: Nourishment for your body. It has taken me a year to change my way of thinking, but I have made tremendous progress in realizing that while I may not be perfect 365 days of the year I will not give up. A year from today I could have been at the same weight I was last year, at an even higher weight, or 100 pounds smaller. I choose to be 65 pounds smaller and you can too.

Losing weight can be a long, slow and lonely struggle. There are times when you want to eat cupcakes until they are coming out of your ears, but when you don't give in it empowers you! When you do give in get back on the same day if you can. Perseverance is the key to your success. Don't give up. I had some off days (even an off month) this year but I still managed to lose 65 pounds. Never give up.
